About  the Art

When I think about the world that is around me—the events, the history, the places, the people, the undercurrents to our society, the patterns and cycles of humanity—I think in pictures. In fact, it can be difficult for me to articulate in words the deeply felt emotions, grievances, connections, and—at times—the sense of contentment I feel. In my mind, images speak with boldness and clarity. Painting releases those images from my mind. My favorite medium for releasing those images is oil painting.

Possessing deep feelings is universal. I believe we offer one another ways of working through those feelings when we openly create. In this way, we can offer comfort, encouragement, healing, and the deep satisfaction of being seen to one another. I create to share. I create to build community.

About the Artist

My artistic journey has been nurtured by the nature overflowing from the ridges and ravines of my home in Pennsylvania’s Appalachian region. It is here, in the woodlands, that I began to learn about myself as a creator. I enjoyed capturing the nuances of the life that resided in the woods with me. I painted the mushrooms and the birds, I photographed the salamanders and mosses. Everything seemed worth noticing. I believe we are each innately able to create—creativity is at the core of humanity, and it can evolve in so many different forms. Nature seems to illustrate that. I lead a life diverse in creativity. It is hard to say what you may find me doing or making next: knitting, painting, building projects, illustrating, any number of things in the kitchen. This also includes involvement in my local community. By creating local gallery space and collaborating to include art in local fundraising events, I strive to make spaces for others to find inspiration and connection with their creative selves. I hope that through sharing my expressions of creativity, those I cross paths with will feel enriched and inspired to live in the fullness of who they are. Inspiring others to create has become a driving force behind much of what I do.
